Throughout June, about 150,000 hydrangea plants and 3 million blooms cover Shimoda Park.

Dates
1–30 June (peak usually mid-June)
Venue
Shimoda Park

Every June, Shimoda Park hosts the Shimoda Hydrangea Festival (Ajisai Matsuri). Organisers give figures of about 150,000 plants and 3 million blooms, spread over the hillside above the harbour.

When

The festival runs from 1 to 30 June. Flowering depends on the weather, and the peak usually falls in mid-June. Sunny weekends are crowded; rainy days are quieter, and hydrangeas look their best wet.
