See · Kawazu · Originally covered on this site in 2017 (in Japanese); rewritten in English and updated 2026-10-24.

A sister garden of the Bagatelle rose garden in Paris, with about 6,000 roses of 1,100 varieties in a French formal layout.

mid-May to June; again Oct–Nov

In the hills above Kawazu, Kawazu Bagatelle Park reproduces the geometric rose garden of the Parc de Bagatelle in Paris, with which it has been twinned since it opened in 2001. At the peak, about 6,000 rose bushes of around 1,100 varieties are in flower, laid out in French formal beds with arches and pergolas.

When

The spring roses bloom from late April to June (best from mid-May), and there is a second, smaller flowering in October and November.

Visiting

The park is in the hills above Kawazu, a short taxi or bus ride from Kawazu station; check transport and opening days before you go. There is a garden shop and a café. Combine it with the Kawazu Seven Waterfalls.
